FAQs

Do you take insurance?
Currently, I am contracted with most providers.  The process goes smoother if you call your insurance to find out whether I am an in network provider for your insurance plan and what your copay is as well as the number of sessions approved for a calendar year.  If I am not a contracted provider for your insurance I can offer you a statement for reimbursement as an out of network provider.  I am aware that out-of-pocket payment for therapy can be difficult and do my best to help keep the costs as low as possible by using a sliding fee scale.

What is the process to get started?
Call 530.448.6985 to schedule an appointment.  We can talk about insurance/fees, and any other issues that may be settled prior to therapy.  Particularly in divorce/separation situations, it is important to have both parents sign the Consent to treat a minor and Agreement to treat/Informed consent prior to me having a session with the child.  Even in families where custody is not at issue, it is most convenient for all of us if you can download and sign the paperwork on the Forms page of this website.  Then I can answer any questions that you have prior to the session and we use less time of our initial session in completing paperwork.

How long are the sessions?
Insurance typically pays only for a 45 minute session.  If private pay clients wish to have an extended session, we can discuss an appropriate time limit and fee.

What age groups do you work with?
I have seen children who have been exposed to trauma as young as 18 months.  However, for children without trauma and who are having difficulty with life transitions, three is the youngest I tend to work with.  I have also worked with elderly adults dealing with late in life difficulties and all ages in between.

If I have an emergency with my child and need help, can I call you?
First, I recommend calling 911 or going the nearest emergency room in any emergency.  If you contact me in an emergent situation I will do my best to offer aid.  However, I do not offer 24 hour crisis availability.
